D106 Conference and Area 33 Update
Area 33 Club Members,
I enjoyed seeing many of you at a very well organized District 106 conference in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Our district speech champions were Peter Tartaro (International) and Jim Emery (Tall Tales). Congratulations to Carmen Barnes (Mills Early Risers) and Julianna Hoffman (CrossTown Talkers) for representing Division D well. Daniel DeJoode (PowerTalk) was also among the featured speakers. Anna Gaichas was elected Club Growth Director. It was announced that this would be the final D106 trio election and that there is a TI masterplan to make districts larger. Likely, D106 combines with D6 which will expand our district back to roughly the 200 clubs from Minnesota and Thunder Bay. I hope you, like me, were inspired by the conference.
Are you are seeing huge benefits from participating in your clubs? There are always leadership opportunities! Can you get your club to the membership level that is required to be distinguished? Now is also the time to elect new officers for the 2024-2025 year. Provide direction to your club, be a club officer! There are also district opportunities available for those interested in being an area director, which is a requirement toward becoming a distinguished toastmaster, DTM. There may even be one division director slot available to a past area director. I can connect you to the process. Area Toastmaster of the Year nominations are due from clubs to me by the end of the month. Each member should send club toastmaster of the year nominations to their club president now.
If you have a particular interest in Leadership or Professional Speaking, please consider joining a specialty club as a second club. In Area 33, we have each.
- Leadership Summit, https://691684.toastmastersclubs.org/ , meets the first Tuesday of the month (tomorrow online only), typically has hybrid meetings and is having an Open House at its June 3 meeting in St. Louis Park. Topic: Recognition.
- PowerTalk, https://powertalk.toastmastersclubs.org/ , meets the second Monday of the month and is having a very special hybrid event this weekend Saturday May 10 at 2:30 with the physical location at the Eden Prairie Library. The theme is "From Toastmaster to Professional Speaker, From Toastmaster to Podcaster." Please register. I've enjoyed serving as Area Director. My final official club visits are this week though I continue with the role through June 30. Please let me know how I can help your club meet its challenges, membership and otherwise.
Respectfully,
David Rasmussen, Area 33 Director
